As on- and off-road vehicles transition to electrification, driving auxiliaries without an internal combustion engine presents new challenges. Sonceboz’s electromechanical PTO (emPTO) provides a compact, scalable, low-noise, maintenance-free, and high-torque solution that simplifies integration and meets the constraints of urban applications.

In electric truck and off-road vehicles, auxiliary systems such as pumps or compressors must operate independently of the engine, without compromising on efficiency, packaging, or noise levels. Sonceboz responds to this need with its electromechanical power take-off (emPTO): a liquid cooled Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) and a direct-drive architecture, the Sonceboz emPTO delivers outstanding torque density into a compact architecture.

Thanks to its gearbox-free architecture, the emPTO significantly reduces system complexity and maintenance thanks to improved durability and robustness, key requirements for commercial vehicles. Its low noise operation makes it particularly well-suited for use in urban environments, where noise reduction is critical.

Designed for scalability and optimized investment across different applications, the emPTO covering power levels from 30 kW up to 120 kW continuous power at 800 V systems. The first emPTO with 85kW continuous power will be in serial production end of 2027 with more variants to follow in 2028. A future compatibility with 400V systems is foreseen. Torque and power can be adapted by varying motor length and active materials, avoiding the need for multiple variants and reducing development costs. Based on a common electronics and software platform, this solution is Functional Safety compliant and cybersecurity-ready, facilitating integration while minimizing time to market. Its high torque density, combined with smooth and customizable control, ensures easy, reliable operation even under the demanding conditions of commercial and off-highway vehicles.

Thanks to Sonceboz’s vertically integrated industrial model, including in-house design, manufacturing, and testing of mechanical, electronic, and plastic parts, the emPTO offers a cost-efficient, robust, and future-proof solution for next-generation electrified auxiliary.
